Personal, Social and Health and Citizenship Education

Personal, Social and Health and Citizenship Education is a very  important part of the curriculum. It enables children to develop an understanding of themselves, others and the environment in which they live. Through its three core themes (Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World) our curriculum covers the breadth of PSHE from statutory RSHE content (including Relationships Education, RSE and Health Education) to economic wellbeing In this context and as part of a varied approach, subjects such as understanding ourselves, myself and others, protecting our health, food, enjoyment and health and safety are covered. Parents will be notified and may be invited to attend with their children any videos or talks which deal specifically with sex education.

At Glenfall teachers have been trained and use P4C which is Philosophy for children. Philosophy for Children is enquiry based learning, which offers a way to open up children’s learning through enquiry and the exploration of ideas. Children learn that their ideas have value, and that the ideas of other children have value too. Through P4C children realise that they don’t always have to be right, but they gain the confidence to ask questions and learn through discussion.
