Children at Glenfall are encouraged to participate fully in a wide range of sporting activities from the very beginning of their school life. Pupils receive at least two hours of physical activity per week within the curriculum time, taking full advantage of our school’s excellent indoor and outdoor facilities. Throughout the school class teachers are supported by professional coaches to deliver a wide variety of sports and games.
Teachers and coaches deliver lessons that encourage respect, tolerance and appreciation of each other’s achievements and abilities. Pupils develop their skills in agility, physical coordination, fitness, confidence as well as an understanding of what it means to be healthy and live a healthy lifestyle.
In Year 2 and Year 3, children at Glenfall have swimming lessons, delivered by qualified swimming instructors at St Edward’s School pool. Children are taught to swim competently and proficiently over at least 25m in a range of strokes.
Glenfall offers a range of sporting activities for pupils to participate in as part of their extra-curricular education, with opportunities available in football, hockey, netball, tag rugby and cricket. These are provided by the staff as well as by qualified coaches who are brought in to provide expert tuition. In addition to these extra-curricular activities, the school has a high reputation in gymnastics, with children regularly competing in local and county gymnastics competitions.
Team games are played in season, both within school and against teams from neighbouring schools through the MoveMore School Sports Network. The school sports year culminates in a celebration of the school games values at the annual sports day, where every child in school earns points towards their house teams.
