Our topic this half term is:

Let there be light!

Literacy

This half term, we will be enjoying a range of exciting texts linked to our Let There Be Light topic. Through drama, poetry, discussion and writing, the children will explore stories such as Can’t You Sleep, Little Bear?, How to Catch a Star and The Stinky Sprouts. We will also learn about Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night through our literacy lessons, practising skills such as asking questions, using speech bubbles and retelling stories.

Spelling tests will continue to take place on a Friday.

Maths

This half term, we will be building our confidence with number as we develop our addition and subtraction skills, practise counting and explore numbers in different ways. We will also compare and order numbers, explain our mathematical thinking and continue to develop our understanding of shape.

Science

This half term, we will investigate the properties of materials and discover how different materials are used in everyday life. Through a range of practical investigations, we will explore waterproof, transparent and opaque materials and learn which materials are best suited to different purposes.

Spelling tests will take place every Friday.

Reading:

Reading journals and books should be brought in on Monday and Friday to be checked and changed.
