Literacy

This half term in Literacy, we are diving into exciting adventure stories to inspire our own writing. We will be exploring The Boy Who Sailed the World, Mrs Armitage on Wheels, and Whatever Next to help us understand how authors create imaginative journeys and memorable characters. Our learning will begin with adventure story innovation, where we will adapt and create our own stories. We will also be focusing on syllables, using exclamation marks correctly, understanding prefixes, writing detailed setting descriptions and revisiting the key components of a sentence to strengthen our writing skills. We can’t wait to see the fantastic stories that will be created!

Spelling tests will take place once a week on a Friday.

Maths

This half term in Maths, we will be focusing on numbers 11 to 17. The children will practise partitioning each number into different parts and exploring the various ways it can be made. For each number, they will find and represent all addition number facts and all subtraction number facts, helping them to build a secure understanding of how numbers work. Through practical resources and written methods, we will develop confidence, fluency and accuracy in recalling and applying these key number facts.

Science

This term in Science, we will be learning about the seasons and the human body. We will begin by exploring the signs of spring and observing changes in the world around us. In our learning about the human body, the children will name different parts on the outside of the body and discuss the important jobs they do. We will also learn about some key parts on the inside of the body and talk about their functions. In addition, we will explore the five senses and identify which parts of the body help us to see, hear, smell, taste and touch.

Here is our overview for this term’s theme –
